McDonald, Women’s Epee, Mayer, MS Boys’ A Basketball, and Reisner earn Athletic Accolades

Dan McDonald ’15 – Varsity Wrestling

Senior Dan McDonald concluded his wrestling season with several consecutive stellar performances in recent tournaments. At the Northern New England Invitational, McDonald overcame all odds as a 15 seed in the tournament and ended up winning gold, getting the best of the 7 seed, the 3 seed, the 2 seed, and the 1 seed. Following up that performance was the EIL tournament, where McDonald also made his way to the top of the podium, getting the best of season-long rivals from Concord Academy and Landmark. In what was undoubtedly the best performance of McDonald’s wrestling career, he also managed to place at the New England Championships, earning 5th place honors and qualifying for Nationals. Throughout the 2 days of competition, McDonald went head to head and got the best of 4 wrestlers, 3 of which were seeded higher than him. McDonald has proven to be a hard worker in the wrestling room every day and has given his teammates some big shoes to fill in his absence next season.

Varsity Fencing

Women’s Epee 
At the Fencing State Championships, the stars of the day were the women’s epee squad. Freshman Becca Barnes took home a silver medal in individuals, sophomore Sophia Bruno made the semifinal in the individual event. Senior Shauna Sullivan joined them in earning Beaver’s first women’s squad medal since 2012.

Cam Mayer ’15
In men’s foil, senior Cameron Mayer was a standout yet again, bringing home the state title for the fourth time in his five years fencing for Beaver.

Middle School Boys’ A Basketball

The Beaver Middle School Boys A Basketball team competed in the Annual Middle School Invitational Basketball Tournament on Saturday, February 7. Five teams, including Shady Hill School, Meadowbrook School, Carroll School, and Belmont Day School, competed in a round-robin tournament followed by a championship game. The team from Beaver went undefeated in the tournament, beating Shady Hill School in the championship game to bring home the 1st place trophy. During the trophy presentation, the team was commended for showing class throughout the day with their sportsmanship, positive attitude, and hard work.

Max Reisner ’19 -MS Wrestling

Max had a stellar season for the Beaver MS wrestling team that culminated in him earning 1st place in his weight class at the New England Jr Prep Championships. He had a 23-2 record this year that included 15 pins, 2 technical falls and 2 major decisions. Max also took 1st place at the Eaglebrook Tournament and 2nd place at the Cardigan Mountain Tournament.
