Additional Requirements

Service Learning

All students, grades 6-8, are required to participate in our service learning program. The program is designed to allow students to become aware of the volunteer organizations in and around the Boston area. The opportunities that exist for the middle school are nursing homes around the area, organic farms, Boston area elementary schools, clothing drives, and organizations specializing in terminal illness. The students will have the opportunity to offer their services for three hours each term. The goal is for students to see the need for volunteering and eventually begin volunteering on their own outside of school time.

Portfolios
Throughout the course of the year, students in grades 6-8 will create a portfolio of their work in all subjects. Portfolios offer students, families, teachers, and advisors an opportunity to reflect upon each individual child’s yearlong progress: both strengths and weaknesses, as well as what the student has been learning. As part of the portfolio process, students will share their portfolio with their advisors, peers, and parents/guardians. Once a year, the portfolio process includes a student-led conference that both the student’s advisor and parents/guardians attend.

"The School's programs and culture will focus on providing experiences that foster the development of character, integrity and a strong sense of individual responsibility for high standards through out the school community."
