Visual & Performing Arts Center
The Visual and Performing Arts Center at BCDS opened at the beginning of the 2004-2005 academic year. The state-of-the-art facility, unrivaled by any other day school in the area, connects to the school’s main building on two floors and includes 30,000 square feet that enhance and expand the space already devoted to the arts at BCDS. The arts center features classrooms and practice rooms dedicated to the performing and visual arts, as well as several performance and exhibition venues for the artwork of students, faculty, and alumni.

The second floor of this new three-story structure houses the Black Box theater and support rooms for all productions. The Black Box provides an intimate setting for small-scale productions and seats 125 people. A set design room, costume shop, dressing rooms, green room, and control room for lights and sound, together with the black box theater, form the centerpiece of the theater arts program at BCDS. Other highlights of the new building include:
    • A photography suite that contains a classroom, a dark room with a number of developing stations, and a film changing room
    • Dedicated classrooms for printmaking and two-dimensional art with lighting best suited for drawing and painting
    • A computer graphics lab that allows BCDS to offer computer-aided graphics and design classes
    • Performing arts classrooms, one of which features sprung floors and mirrored walls, for instrumental music, general music, chorus and drama
    • Specialized listening practice room space
    • Storage areas
    • Display space
