Rising ninth grader Emily Smith took home the overall championship for her age group at the Youth Dressage Festival held July 9-11 in Saugerties, New York and qualified for the 2010 Children of the Americas Dressage Invitational to be held in October.

Beaver tennis ace Pierre Planche '10 was named a Boston Globe All Scholastic for the 2nd year. Pierre was unbeaten in EIL play this year and last. Four other members of our boys' team were named EIL All Stars (Henry Moorhead '10, Lukas Mead '10, Kris Bronner '12 and Julian Fialkow '12). The BCDS boys' varsity tennis team claimed the EIL Championship for the straight second year. .

Beaver's Hayley Yudelman ’10 placed 1st in the women's lightweight youth 8's at the USRowing Youth Junior National Championship Regatta in Cincinnati, June 11-13. Hayley represented Community Rowing Inc. She also placed 4th in the women's youth 2x sculling division.

Freshly-minted Beaver grad Hayley Yudelman ’10 of Newton qualified for the US Rowing Youth Junior National Championship Regatta in Cincinnati, June 11-13. Hayley is representing Community Rowing Inc. in the women’s youth division.

The BCDS Athletic Department is proud to announce that Peter Brooks, Sarah Bormel and Liz Skinner were voted as the 2010 EIL Boys and Girls EIL (Eastern Independent League) Lacrosse Coaches of the Year.

Several BCDS athletes were named Eastern Independent League (EIL) All-Stars at the spring athletics awards ceremony on May 19. In separate end-of-season ceremonies, coaches presented school awards to outstanding varsity and JV athletes and to promising middle school athletes on spring teams.

As the spring sports season begins to wind down Buzz Haverty '10 (ultimate frisbee), Murray Hershkowitz '10 (unltimate frisbee), Kristopher Bronner '12 (varsity tennis), and Emily Robbins '15 (MS softball) have earned the most recent Athletic Accolades.

The BCDS boys' varsity tennis team clinched the Eastern Independent League (EIL) championship for the second year in a row with a 4-1 win over Pingree on May 14. Undefeated in league play, the team won five of its eight matches by 5-0.

Beaver’s varsity softball and baseball teams led a skills clinic with softball players from Brookline Special Olympics on April 27 in Gym B. The athletes enjoyed a fun afternoon, running relay races and practicing batting and fielding skills together. On April 30 the Special Olympians were invited to attend and be a cheering squad at the girls’ varsity softball game versus Concord Academy. This partnership is one that Sherry Levin hopes to continue to develop with fall and winter teams next year.

Beaver Athletic Director Sherry Levin announced the recipients of the latest Athletic Accolades at the all-school meeting on April 29. Reid Bernstein '10 (varsity baseball), Brae Cabot '10 (varsity softball), and Jamie Kennedy '15 (MS baseball) were recognized for their achievements on the field.

While the rest of us savor our Patriots Day holiday, four Beaver teachers will be running the 2010 Boston Marathon to raise money for charities that support education. Tara Paulauskas, Amy Winston, Alicia Henriquez and Cat Maher have trained hard all winter to run the 26.2 mile course on April 19.

Beaver's athletic department has awarded the first Athletic Accolades of the spring season to Henry Moorhead '10 (boys' varsity tennis), Lexi Knopf '11 (girls' varsity lacrosse), and John Kalnins '14 (middle school boys' lacrosse).

Freshman boys' basketball player Rene Castro's outstanding season was recognized by NEPSAC coaches as he was voted a first team Class D All-Star. Castro is the only freshman to earn an all-star nod this year.

At the close of the winter sports season, five varsity athletes were named All-Stars by the Eastern Independent League, and Beaver athletic department recognized the contributions of outstanding upper and middle athletes with school awards.

It was a banner weekend for Beaver sports when our boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams each won their respective league tournaments on February 27.

Beaver's varsity fencing team competed well at the Massachusetts State High School Fencing Championships on February 28 at Concord-Carlisle HS. The boys' team placed 4th in the overall standings, the boys' foil squad was 3rd. The girls' team came in 5th overall.

As the winter sports season winds down, there are many performances worthy of an Athletic Accolade. This week's honors go to the boys' varsity basketball team, Ramon Ramao '11 (wrestling), and Jeff Spellman '14 (MS boys' A basketball).

EIL wrestling champ Ramon Romao ’11 earned a berth in the National Prep Wrestling Tournament in Pennsylvania this weekend based on his 4th place finish at the recent NEPSAC Championship.

Beaver's Daisy Jordan '11 has been named a NEPSAC Class C East All-Star for girls' basketball. Daisy will play in this year's East vs. West All-Star game on Sunday, March 7, at 1:30 pm at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham. Sherry Levin, head coach of Beaver's girls' varsity, will be one of the coaches for the East team.

Beaver hosted the EIL wrestling tournament on February 11 and five of our students placed, including one first place champ. Ramon Romao '11 was the best wrestler in the EIL at 119 lbs, pinning his way through the finals, ending each of his matches before the third period. Jason Flashner '12 took second at the 125 lbs weight class, pinning his way through the semi-finals.

As the winter athletic season winds down, another group of Athletic Accolades has been announced. Ibbie Yardley '10 (girls' varsity basketball), Neddy Beckwith '11 (JV squash), and Tyler Myrick '13 (wrestling) were recognized at an all-school meeting for their success on and off the courts and mats.

Former Boston Celtic Dee Brown was back in Boston recently to lead a basketball clinic at Beaver. Brown, a Celtic between 1990-98 and the winner of the NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest in 1991, put the Beaver boys’ varsity and JV players through their paces on February 4 in the Athletic Center. He also gave a pep talk to the girls’ varsity team.

With winter sports back in action after the holiday break, three student-athletes were recognized for their achievements on the courts. Aleah Stewart-Souris '10 (varsity volleyball), David Jacquet '12 (boys' JV basketball), and Jamie Kennedy '15 (MS boys' A basketball) took home this week's Athletic Accolades.

Three members of Beaver’s varsity fencing team medaled at the Concord Carlisle Invitational Meet on January 9-10. Joseph Randles ’12 won the gold medal in boys’ epee, Sheyda Bautista-Saeyan ’10 placed 5th in girls’ saber, and Omari Spears ’12 got 6th in boys’ foil.

Congratulations to Beaver fencers Joseph Randles ’12 and Will Harrington ’12 who recently qualified to compete in the U.S. Fencing Association’s 2010 Junior Olympics in Memphis on Feb. 12-15. Joseph will compete in the under-17 and under-20 epee classes, and Will in the under-17 saber class. The Junior Olympics draws the country’s best young fencers to compete for the national title in each class.
